District Governor 2016-17
District Governor Michael Walsh writes:
I grew up and was educated in Launceston. After being admitted to the Bar and marrying Roslyn we moved to Ulverstone where I joined a legal practise and Roslyn started her teaching career. I continued in legal practice for 40 years specialising in civil litigation. Roslyn and I have three adult sons and five grandchildren and are actively involved in their lives.
I have over 45 years continuous service in Apex and Lions. I have been Club President and held many other club positions. I have been a Zone Chairman six times and District CBL Chairman three times.
I have also been a member of the Multiple District CBL Committee and attended the Lions Leadership Training and ANZI in 2014 and was the chair of the District GMT/GLT Committee.
I swim a lot and enjoy outdoor activities including fishing and jet ski expeditions with two of our sons who live locally. I also have a classic sports car in which Roslyn and I enjoy trips.
I enjoy bush-walking and have completed many walks in Tasmania and mainland Australia. In 2013 I completed a 21 day trek to the Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal.
I have an interest in community, governance, social justice and social equity issues and over the years have and still am involved in many state and local organisations including 13 years Board membership of Anglicare Tas Inc and a term as Board Chair, 15 years Chair of a local CYSS and Skillshare program, 20 years Board member and Chair of Roland Children's Services Inc, and Board Chair and member of Launceston City Mission Inc.
